"One Chance is All You Need:" Jesse Owens, Nazi Ideology, and the 1936 Olympics
Date: February 28, 2012
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Event Description
Jesse Owens defied Nazi Ideology of superiority with his achievements at the 1936 Olympics. When President Bush posthumously awarded Owens the Congressional Medal of Honor a decade after his death, he commented that his victories in Berlin were “an unrivaled athletic triumph, but more than that, a triumph for all humanity.” Discover how one man, the African-American son of a sharecropper and the grandson of slaves, challenged Hitler’s obsession of Aryan supremacy. The lecture includes a slide presentation and discussion and will be held at the Bedford Welcome Center. Free admission though donations are appreciated.
