A 50th Anniversary Grand Finale event will take place on Wednesday, October 5, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at Bernard’s Landing Conference Center (775 Ashmeade Rd., Moneta). Brief remarks will be offered by SML Reg. Chamber of Commerce Exec. Director Vicki Gardner, Delegate Charles Poindexter, Franklin Co. Administrator Brent Robertson, Bedford Co. Board of Supervisors Member (District 2) Curry Martin, and Franklin Co. Board of Supervisors Member (Gills Creek District) Bob Camicia. 50th Anniversary Steering Committee Chair Bill Piatt will provide a presentation on “Achievements of the 50th Anniversary Celebration.” Complementary Homestead Creamery ice cream will be served.
There will also be a dedication of the specially designed SML Time Capsule. Sponsors of the 50th Anniversary celebration have been invited to place an item into the 25-year Time Capsule. It will be permanently housed at the SML Dam Visitors Center. The Time Capsule’s plaque directs that it be opened on March 7, 2041, which will be the 75th anniversary of the Lake reaching “Full Pond.”
Come early to enjoy the music of the SML Parrot and Toucan Pan Steel Bands starting at 3:15 p.m.
The four school children who are the winners of the drawing competition on “What will the lake look like in 25 years?” will be announced during the ceremony. Their winning entries will be placed into the Time Capsule. Each child will receive a $50 Visa Gift Card.
The event is free and open to the public but attendance is limited.
