Free tax preparation assistance is available to anyone who makes $55,000 or less through STEP’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) at its Rocky Mount office and Ferrum College.



Sessions will be held Mondays from 4-6 p.m. at STEP in Rocky Mount, Feb. 4-April 15; Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Ferrum College, January 30-April 10; and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. at Ferrum College, January 31-April 11. To schedule an appointment, call STEP’s front desk in Rocky Mount, 540-483-5142.   

Taxpayers need to bring the appropriate paperwork, listed below.



Those who want to prepare their tax returns need to bring a picture ID, social security cards for all tax payers and dependents, and all tax related documents such as W-2.  They should also bring a copy of their last year’s tax return if possible.
