DESCRIPTION:Want to help improve the ecology of Smith Mountain Lake? Volunteer to work with a park ranger and help create fish habitat structures to be placed in the lake. The primary purpose of fish habitat structures is to congregate fish for the angler. However\, it also provides protection from danger\, a place for fish to raise young\, lay eggs\, and feed\, among other positive benefits. Bluegills\, minnows\, and other prey fish use the structures to hide from predators. Larger fish seeking an easy meal gather at these structures. Fry and forage species are the key to sustainability: protect them and there will be plenty of larger fish to catch. So\, come on out\, enjoy a day of fresh air\, as well as some of the best views of the lake while you help the ecology of Smith Mountain Lake.\n\n\n\nThere is free parking/admission for this day.\n\n\n\nPre-registration required.
