For 50 years, the World Wildlife Fund, Inc. (WWF) has been working to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth. The world's leading conservation organization, WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally. But did you know that WWF's mission goes far beyond species conservation? Oceans plastics, climate resilience, and food waste are just a few of the topics WWF employees pursue every day, and people are right at the center of what they do. Come hear from two WWF employees about current threats to people and nature, what's being done to address these risks, and what you can do to contribute to the mission. The presenters will be David and Cate Kuhn who have been employees of WWF and residents of Washington DC for 6+ years. The Winter Lecture Series is presented by the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Proceeds go to help fund educational programs and projects in the park. Additional dates for the 2020 Winter Lecture series include January 12, February 9, and April 5.
