Schedules, supervises, and evaluates lifeguard staff in all duties. Develops and maintains ongoing in-service training for lifeguards. Assumes responsibility for cleanliness and safety of beach, swimming area, restrooms, trash receptacles, and grounds/parking lots. Guards and assists beach patrons, administers first aid and otherwise assumes same tasks as the lifeguards. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Responsible to the Assistant Park Manager or his/her designee.
Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent. A valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent required. Considerable knowledge of the operation of a beach facility, including cleanliness and safety. Completion of a minimum of two seasons of guarding experience preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and application of lifesaving and first aid techniques. Thorough knowledge of emergency services and auxiliary services available in the surrounding community. Must be able to keep detailed records and account for revenue collected. Ability to work harmoniously with the public and other State Park Staff.
- All positions require weekends and/or holidays, uniforms will be provided per policy. Employment in all positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. All positions are limited to 1500 hours between May 1 and April 30. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License. Compensation is based on experience.
