New executive director takes over at SML Regional Chamber

Christopher Finley started as Executive Director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 28, replacing Vicki Gardner who stepped down in July after nearly 17 years with the organization.

“I’m very excited about returning to Smith Mountain Lake and for the opportunity to drive tourism and grow business for the Chamber’s members and the community,” said Finley, who served on the SMLRCC Board of Directors from 2011 to 2013. “I look forward to supporting the mission of strengthening the social and economic environment of the community.”

Candidate Forums

The SMLRCC helped facilitate two candidate forums in October to allow those running for a variety of elected offices in districts near the lake to present their policy positions and answer residents’ questions.

The Franklin/Pittsylvania forum took place Oct. 7 and was organized in conjunction with the Smith Mountain Lake Association. The Bedford County event was Oct. 23 and was presented along with the SMLA and Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce. Turnout was strong at both forums.

Thank you to all who helped organize these important events. Remember to exercise your right to vote on Nov. 5!

Annual Women’s Night Out

The Education Committee of the Chamber hosted its 5th Annual Women’s Night Out on Oct. 15 at The Waterfront Country Club. Dr. Angie Dahl, a licensed clinical psychologist and Dean of Health Professions and Social Sciences at Ferrum College, was the featured speaker. Dahl discussed the many roles women take on in society today and the impact it can take on emotional health.
