Holiday luncheon


Volunteers, ambassadors and staff of the Chamber enjoyed lunch and a gift exchange at their annual holiday celebration on Dec. 6 at The Westlake Golf & Country Club. “We are so grateful for your enthusiasm and dedication throughout the year,” Executive Director Christopher Finley told the group. Annual Awards Dinner

5 p.m. at The Waterfront Country Club

Annual awards and recognition ceremony. Tickets will remain $55 but will increase to $65 on Jan. 1. We will offer tables of 8 for $425 and tables of 10 for $535.

The 2020 SML Newcomer and Visitor Guide will be unveiled at this event sponsored by LeisureMedia360. 5-7 p.m. Location TBA. 


Survey for proposed Bedford train station closes soon


There’s still time to complete an online survey regarding the possibility of adding a passenger train station in Bedford.


The purpose of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation’s survey is to learn where people in Bedford, Franklin and Botetourt counties travel in the northeast and whether they might use Amtrak to reach their destination. Feedback will help decide whether a proposed train station in Bedford might be viable.

The SMLRCC is seeking volunteers for two open slots -- Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings -- starting in January. If you like to welcome people to SML and share what our beautiful community has to offer, you will love volunteering at our Visitor Center! Contact Laura Healey at 721-1203 or
