SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Virginia – The Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce (SMLRCC) today unveiled a new LOVE artwork, now on display at the Smith Mountain Lake Visitor Center located at Bridgewater Plaza, a popular tourist destination in Moneta.
The LOVEworks program is a state-wide branding initiative designed to promote travel in Virginia and strengthen awareness of the “Virginia is for Lovers” message. The new Smith Mountain Lake LOVEwork is one of more than 200+ LOVE letters, including another life-sized LOVE artwork on display at Westlake Cinema in the Westlake Towne Center, called LOVEworks, in towns and cities across the Commonwealth.
“The goal is to have the sign as a backdrop as visitors take their photo in front of the letters L-O-V-E and share on social media,” stated Christopher Finley, executive director. “We couldn’t think of a more appropriate location to display the new Smith Mountain Lake LOVEwork than the Smith Mountain Lake Visitor Center,” stated Christopher Finley, executive director.
In July, the SMLRCC received a $10,000 grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) DMO WanderLove Recovery Grant Program. Funds from the VTC grant were used for the project and the SMLRCC commissioned local artist Lisa Floyd with Floyd Artworks for the project.
“I am thrilled and honored to serve this great community that I LOVE by being a part of the WanderLove campaign to share what is so uniquely awesome about our lake destination! Kudos to this Chamber for so often infusing local art,” stated Floyd. “It was our goal to pack into our LOVE letters design a comprehensive look all the main reasons folks love wandering here.”
Visitors to Smith Mountain Lake LOVEwork are encouraged to take pictures with it and share them on Facebook at Facebook.com/VirginiaisforLovers and on Instagram and Twitter, using the hashtag #LOVEVA and #LOVEVASML. A full list of LOVEworks can be found at Virginia.org/LOVE.
“Virginia is for Lovers is about doing the things you love to do on vacation with the people you love most," said Rita McClenny, president and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation. “The new LOVEwork at Smith Mountain Lake captures that idea perfectly, and gives you an authentic sense of place as it showcases its abundance of on and off-water outdoor adventures and cultural experiences. We are excited that Smith Mountain Lake will help us share the LOVE with travelers, helping them to discover for themselves why Virginia is for Lovers.”
