Mariners Landing Golfer to Compete at US Open

Mariners Landing is excited to announce that its very own, Isaac Simmons, qualified for the US Open, one of the world's most prestigious golf championships.

The competition will take place at the esteemed Los Angeles Country Club next weekend. Regarded as a pinnacle in global golfing and conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), the US Open tests players with its rigorous courses and intense competition. Only the most talented individuals get the honor to participate in this event. Isaac, a cherished member of Mariners Landing and a student at Liberty University, has been sharpening his golfing skills on our greens for years. Backed by his parents, Melanie and Scott Simmons, he has displayed remarkable talent, dedication, and a pursuit for excellence. We congratulate Isaac, and his parents, on this distinguished achievement!

During the US Open's 2023 qualifying event at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD, Isaac played two rounds of 69, totaling a 36-hole score of 138. This performance secured him one of the four open slots in the 60-player field. Isaac shared medalist honors with Karl Vilips from Stanford University, as they combined for a field-best of 16 birdies and an eagle, with Isaac making 10 birdies. His excellent last-hole putt on May 4 helped him avoid an 8-man playoff, tying for 5th place at PB Dye Golf Club in Maryland.

Todd Hammock, Mariners Landing resident and ex-PGA Pro, celebrated this feat saying, "Isaac's dedication and talent are remarkable. We couldn't be prouder of his success." Isaac added, "It's an honor to represent Mariners Landing and Liberty University in the 123rd United States Open Championship. The community support has been overwhelming. I am also happy to announce my return to the Liberty Golf Team for my final season in 2023-24. Please feel free to follow my journey on Instagram @isaacsimmons209."

Waller Perrow shared his best wishes, "We're confident that Isaac's skills and determination will shine among the world's finest golfers. His journey serves as an inspiration to our community. His achievements underscore the opportunities for those dedicated to their passion. We are proud of Isaac and look forward to his performance in the US Open. Our community stands behind him as he embarks on this exciting chapter of his golfing career."

Mariners Landing is also pleased to announce a celebratory "send-off" for Isaac Simmons at Bottles & Bites on Wednesday, June 7th, at 6:30 PM. Everyone is invited to join us in wishing Isaac well as he prepares for the upcoming competition. Come and show your support for our local golfing talent on this special evening!
