SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, VA – The Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce is promoting the importance of shopping local this holiday season with a social media campaign leading up to Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30.
Now in its 10th year, Small Business Saturday is a national movement organized by American Express that helps bring communities together in support of small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
“The mission of the Chamber includes growing business for its members,” said Christopher Finley, SMLRCC Executive Director. “This Small Business Saturday campaign will allow us to leverage our significant social media reach to remind residents about the wide variety of shopping opportunities available right here in our community, and the impact their dollars can make for local retailers.”
The Chamber’s campaign includes a Facebook event where businesses may post information about sales, specials and events related to Small Business Saturday. The event page also tips for merchants on how to get the most out of the campaign and includes links to free, customizable marketing materials.
“This is the first step in what we hope will grow into a more significant shop-local campaign for Smith Mountain Lake,” Finley said. “Every dollar kept local is an investment in the success of area businesses, the ones that spur our local economy and development year-round.
“Plus, Smith Mountain Lake offers amazing shopping opportunities such as art galleries, jewelry stores, gift and souvenir shops, home and garden outlets, clothing boutiques and sporting goods stores to name a few. I think you’ll find our merchants are friendly, eager to assist and truly appreciate your business.”
