A Beulah Witt 2017 Art Exhibit will be held from April 3rd through April 29th in the MOarts Gallery at the Moneta/ Smith Mountain Lake Library. Beulah Witt has been in the art business for many years, first with a career at Piedmont Label Company, an industry started in 1919 and still printing labels at their original site in Bedford, Virginia. After she retired from Piedmont, Witt began painting in a second story artist studio located at the Goose Creek Studio, the Bedford gallery, frame shop and sophisticated gathering place favored by artists and collectors. Most recently, a collection of her Blue and White paintings was featured at the Goose Creek Studio in Bedford in a solo exhibit for March, 2017. In 2016 her work was featured at the Bedford Museum and Genealogical Library on Main Street when the museum held a display about the history of Bedford County manufacturing industry. Witt’s unusual hand painted fabric quilt hung from the ceiling in the entry, each colorful square a carefully painted reproduction of a historical canning label created and printed at Piedmont Label Company. Always happy to paint sentimental portraits of animals and scenes for commission, Beulah Witt is well-known for her traditional watercolors of local landmarks and landscapes. Witt sells prints and notecards of her most popular paintings at her studio and gift shops. Her exhibit at the MOarts Gallery shows a range of landscape, animal and floral paintings.
