What would it be like to spend your day swooping above the lake catching insects, or diving into the waters of the lake to catch a fish? Come to the park and find out. We'll get up-close and learn some fascinating facts about two of the bird species (purple martins and ospreys) that come to Smith Mountain Lake each summer to breed. You can also make a birdfeeder out of recyclable materials for our seed-eating feathered friends. Space is limited to 12.
Smith Mountain Lake State Park Jr. Ranger program is offered free to participants, ages 7-12 years, due to the generous support of the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Eight hours of programming are required to qualify as a Jr. Ranger. Programs are held on 6/14, 6/21, 6/28, 7/5, 7/12, and 7/19.
