The SML Marine Volunteer Fire Rescue Department is a 45 member all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)3 organization that has been serving the SML community since 1975. We work in partnership with the land-based fire and rescue agencies around the lake by providing a continuous supply of water from the lake, manpower for fire suppression, as well as EMS first-responder support. Additionally, we provide support services to the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Franklin and Bedford County Sheriff departments.
We have 8 fireboats strategically docked around the lake's over 500 miles of shoreline, but we don't have a station. In 2019, we expect that to change when we build our operations base between the Oak Grove Boat Launch and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary on Coast Guard Court in Moneta.
Until our station is built on Coast Guard Court, you can get more information about us at the SML Visitor Center, Suite 2 in Bridgewater Plaza.
