The Radium Girls is based on a true story set in 1926 when luminous watches, painted with radium, were the latest rage. Dial painter Grace Fryer witnesses the girls who painted the watches become ill with mysterious diseases and eventually connects the strange symptoms to radium. Grace faces her former employer Arthur Roeder in a court battle with the hope of protecting the watch painters, and finds herself in opposition with the U.S. Radium Corporation, as well as her own family and friends. The Daily Record notes: “Radium Girls may speak to our collective capacity for denial. But it also celebrates our individual courage.”
