Tim Cywinski, communications director for the Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club, will be the speaker at the July 27 meeting of the Smith Mountain Lake Democrats at 1:00 p.m. He will provide information on the environmental impact of data centers. Tim Cywinski is a political communications specialist who has advanced policies on poverty, sustainability, and environmental justice. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Roanoke College and an M.A. in Political Communications, Public Relations, and Media from Johns Hopkins University. He is also running for Congress from the First Congressional District. The Sierra Club has worked in states across the country with partner agencies to win new utility policies, including restrictions on data centers that use excessive amounts of water and energy. A data center in Loudoun, VA, used one billion gallons of water in 2023! A new data center is under development in Pittslyvania County. Smith Mountain Lake Democrats is located at 16483 Moneta Road.
