Open Mic Contest
Leading up to the festival there will be an Open Mic Contest that offers local singers and songwriters an exciting opportunity to showcase their talents for a chance to perform at the SML Songwriters Festival, as well as the SML Wine Festival. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just getting started, this is your chance to take the stage and shine!
This is NOT a Karaoke Contest. This is NOT a Songwriting Contest.
• Participants must bring their own instrumentation.
• Each competition will consist of 3 rounds. The audience vote for the winners of the first 2 rounds, with $1 donations.
• Audience votes are counted by donations. ($1 per vote)
• The overall winner of the evening will be determined by Guest Judge and will advance to compete in the finale on June 18th.
• Donations benefit SML GoodNeighbors.
• Same rules apply for the finale on June 18th.
Open mic contestants should be prepared with at least 3 song selections.
This is an opportunity to showcase your original songs. However, cover songs are also permitted.
If you choose to do a cover song, consider putting a twist on it to give it your own unique style and sound.
Examples include:
• Genre switch – such as making a rock song into a country song
• Instrumental change – playing a different type of instrument or changing the musical arrangement
• Lyrics – Add or change lyrics
• Vocal style – Use a different harmony or vocal delivery style
