As natural habitats continue to shrink and people expand development into areas that used to be considered wilderness, more and more often you hear of human and bear encounters. Dan Lovelace, a Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) Wildlife Biologist will discuss biology, behavior and how to avoid conflicts with black bears. Dan has been an employee of DGIF for 39 years, and currently works as a District Wildlife Biologist in the western Piedmont and Blue Ridge Mountains. His work area covers seven counties including Bedford, Botetourt, Franklin, Henry, Patrick, Pittsylvania and Roanoke. The Winter Lecture Series is presented by the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Proceeds go to help fund educational programs and projects in the park. Additional dates for the 2020 Winter Lecture series include January 12, March 8, and April 5.
