About Us
The SML Marine Volunteer Fire Rescue Department is a 45 member all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)3 organization that has been serving the SML community since 1975. We work in partnership with the land-based fire and rescue agencies around the lake by providing a continuous supply of water from the lake, manpower for fire suppression, as well as EMS first-responder support. Additionally, we provide support services to the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Franklin and Bedford County Sheriff departments.
We have 9 fireboats strategically docked around the lake's over 500 miles of shoreline, but we don't have a station. In 2020, we expect that to change when we build our operations base between the Oak Grove Boat Launch and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary on Coast Guard Court in Moneta.
