SML Leadership Academy students learn about local tourism initiatives

The Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy held its most recent class on May 3 at Mariners Landing where students learned about the critical role tourism plays in the region’s economy.

Nicole Johnson, Director of Tourism for Bedford County, presented an update on local tourism initiatives and Jen Rowland, owner of Rowland Leadership Training & Consulting, facilitated a variety of related workshops.

“The students were also treated to a presentation by Mariners Landing, as well as a tour to see the many new and upgraded offerings,” said Andy Bruns, executive director of the Chamber. “Alyssa Eads and Tiffany Silva provided a comprehensive overview of the many, many amenities Mariners Landing has to offer residents and visitors.”

The SMLRCC Leadership Academy is a 12-month program designed to develop a diversified corps of informed, committed and qualified individuals who will assume leadership roles for Bedford, Franklin and Pittsylvania county organizations.
