The Westlake Golf and Country Club is Smith Mountain Lake's premier public golf course. The Westlake is cut out of the woods and a green that sits by one of Smith Mountain Lake's many peaceful coves and inlets. The Westlake includes a beautifully restored farmhouse that features a pro shop and a delightful restaurant. The Westlake carries the trademark touch of Russell Breeden, a Virginia native with nearly 100 course designs to his credit. The 6511-yard course is challenging for players of all levels.
Billy McBride III has been the head golf professional at The Westlake since January 2004.
A second-generation golf professional, Billy is a Roanoke native and 1990 graduate of Northside High School. After earning a degree in Business Management from North Carolina-Wilmington, he got his start in the golf business at Roanoke Country Club. He moved to Hanging Rock Golf Club in Salem in the summer of 1996 and completed membership into the PGA of America in October 2000.
The Westlake is a member of the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame, an organization that includes 11 area golf courses. The Hall of Fame distributes scholarships and brings together the Roanoke Valley's top amateur men, women, junior, senior and super senior golfers each summer for team and individual competition.
